How to use feet in CloudStation ?

Step-by-step procedure to manage data in feet (or us-feet) instead of meters in CloudStation to import GCP and or export point cloud.

The aim is to use a CRS in CloudStation that uses feet. If it idesn't exist, then here is how to create a custom CRS that can be used when importing GCP or exporting point clouds.

Important : The whole POSPac or Qinertia trajectory processing must be done in meters ! Whatever the final units are.

  • Step 1: In the Export settings or in the GCP Import settings in CloudStation you can choose the desired coordinate system. Click on the “Coordinates“ tab and choose “Other “.
  • Step 2: Type and choose your desired Coordinate Reference System (CRS) into the search bar (here 3490). Clicking the “Create a Custom projection based on this one“ button on the right will open a new window where you can define your custom CRS.

  • Step 3: In order to have only vertical units in feet, in the shown text field add “+vunits=us-ft“ (1)  to convert the vertical values between metric and survey feet (“+vunits=ft” for imperial values).

  • Step 4: In order to use Easting/Northing coordinates in feet, replace or add the +units=m by "+units=us-ft" (or "+units=ft" for imperial values). .

  • Once created, rename this “new custom CRS “ and press "Add a custom CRS" (2). Note the CRS identifier (USER:100025 in this example), and call this identifier to either
    -import GCP’s

    -export the Point Clouds/Digital Models/Orthophotos.
